Traditionally, industrial automation has been about picking a PLC platform and an HMI platform, implementing it and being locked in with that platform forever short of wanting to spend six or seven figures to switch. This leaves end users being forced to pay monopolistic prices for extending their control systems. It also makes it inevitable that the end user will need to do a project to upgrade all of their hardware and software due to obsolescence, which also is likely to be a six or seven figure project. These projects do nothing to benefit the end user, the automation vendor gets richer and the end user paid to continue to have a system with the same features they already had.

We believe that licensing costs and these projects to upgrade or switch to new hardware are not only a complete waste, but are also completely unnecessary. Joy Automation uses 15 years of industrial automation expertise, open source software, and general purpose hardware to deliver automation solutions that are more reliable, scalable, maintainable, and have high value.

Even if you have a proprietary solution you’d like to keep, our software can help you extend your existing platform without having to pay exhorbitant licensing or monopolistic prices. While we don’t lead with proprietary solutions, we have used all of the major platforms and are capable of augmenting them.
